The Matcha whisk - Japanese Chasen - is indispensable for the traditional tea ceremony. This bamboo whisk with 100 bristles is probably the most commonly used Matcha whisk. It is equally suitable for all Japanese powdered teas. With it, Matcha can be whipped as Usucha (thin tea, approx. 80ml water per 1g Matcha) as well as Koicha (strong, thick tea, approx. 10ml water per 1g Matcha). It is suitable for beginners and professionals alike.

The chasen are made by hand from a piece of bamboo. An experienced person needs about two hours to make a single bamboo whisk from the first to the last step. The piece of bamboo is split again and again with a sharp special knife.

•Material: White bamboo

•Total length: approx. 10.5 cm
•Diameter of stem: approx. 2.5 cm
•Broom head diameter: approx. 6 cm

Note on use and storage:

The Matcha whisk is delivered in plastic packaging. This packaging is for transport purposes only. It is not suitable for storage after use. Under no circumstances should the Chasen be stored in the closed container when it is wet.

The matcha whisk is an important utensil for preparing matcha, as it allows the green tea powder to be mixed with the water without lumps, allowing the full aroma of the tea to develop. It is a utility item that will last a long time if well cared for, but not forever. To keep the chasen in good condition, please note the following:

A dry chasen has a tendency to break the bristles when beating the matcha. Therefore, the bristles should be softened by gently turning them in hot water before each use.
After use, the chasen must be dried. There is a special stand for this, called a kusenaoshi. The bamboo whisk can dry quickly there. Even more importantly, it always retains its shape on such a stand, but at the same time the inner ribs can unfold properly.
