Shopify Planet: What it is – and how we use it for every order at Verdancia

For us, sustainability doesn't stop with the product. Shipping should also be as climate-friendly as possible. That's why at Verdancia, we rely on Shopify Planet and – wherever possible – on DHL GoGreen Plus.
What's behind it, and what does it mean specifically for your order?

What is Shopify Planet?

Shopify Planet is an official Shopify feature that allows merchants to make every order's shipping carbon neutral. Planet automatically calculates shipping emissions and funds verified CO₂ removal and decarbonization projects.

In short: Planet ensures that the shipping of every order is automatically and transparently carbon neutral – without any extra cost to you.

Automatic Emissions Calculation: Planet records estimated shipping emissions and offsets them through certified CO₂ removal projects.

For us, this means that we automatically make a donation to neutralize emissions to various research companies focused on climate neutrality in e-commerce or other groundbreaking research and companies focused on climate neutrality methods, based on the calculated shipping emissions.

How we use Shopify Planet at Verdancia

Carbon Neutrality for Every Order: We have set up Shopify Planet so that we donate with every order at Verdancia. (An amount calculated based on shipping distance)

Additionally, you have the option to check a box in your shopping cart and donate an additional €0.50 with your order to the same cause!

Transparency in the Shop: The Planet badge on our website shows you that your order is shipped carbon neutral – visible and traceable.

What is DHL GoGreen Plus?

GoGreen Plus is DHL's sustainable shipping option. In contrast to classic offsetting, where emissions are balanced through external projects, GoGreen Plus focuses on insetting – meaning that emissions are reduced directly within the transport chain.

This happens, for example, through the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This genuinely reduces the CO₂ emissions of transport, rather than just mathematically offsetting them. DHL is thus actively investing in the expansion of sustainable logistics solutions, instead of just buying certificates.
